Inari (Japanese Concepts Collection)

Obras sueltas

This illustration is part of the Japanese Concepts Collection, an ongoing series in which I explore one of my greatest passions: Japanese conceptism.

Inspired by mythology, philosophy, and ways of life, each piece distills deep meanings into a minimal visual language, often expressed through just a few kanji. Through this collection, I bring these lesser-known concepts to life, offering my own artistic perspective and inviting the viewer to discover their hidden depth, all printed on parchment-textured paper

Inari is one of the kami closest to everyday Japanese life.
One of those deities that managed to take root in popular culture, to whom both the young and the old would pray whenever they felt the need.

Inari is a god of abundance, rice, and good fortune. They often appear in the form of a fox, carrying between their teeth the Inari no kagi, the key to all granaries. And if you truly need it and ask with humility, Inari will not act directly on your behalf, but will quietly tip the balance in your favor.

In this work, I wanted to represent how the ancient faith in beings who once governed our destiny is now largely disappearing; the gods are dead.

But like everything that dies, where it falls, it nourishes the soil beneath it. Those gods may have died, but they helped shape who we are today, and how we understand life.

Today we no longer pray, nor do we ask higher beings for help… yet we know that luck exists. It works in mysterious ways, and it has the power to create a shining fish in the middle of a pond of black ones.

But in order to have a chance to shine, one must try.

One must keep swimming.
